Ready for Robotics? Addressing the Missing “T” and “E” of STEM in Early Childhood Education

Course Access: Lifetime
Course Overview

Would you like an exciting way to engage your early elementary students, while kindling and encouraging an interest in STEM? Consider giving robotics a try. It’s easier than you think, and it incorporates two components of STEM, the ”T” of technology and the ”E” of engineering, that have been the most neglected in early childhood education. While much work on technology and engineering happens in later schooling, little is focused on the foundational years, despite the fact that interventions beginning in early childhood are associated with lower costs and longer lasting effects. Join Dr. Amanda Sullivan of KinderLab Robotics, as she discusses the importance of technology and engineering curricula in pre-kindergarten through second grade. She will explore how you can use developmentally appropriate robotics and programming tools to address the missing ”T” and ”E” in early childhood settings. Amanda will also share examples of early childhood robotics curricula and provide resources that you can use to begin exploring these topics in your own classroom.
