Course Access: Lifetime
Course Overview

Session Description: The process of language learning is not just intellectual, but also social and emotional. Social strategies can help students achieve more effective language learning as well as an understanding of diverse cultures. Join Michelle Dragalin for this extended session as we explore a variety of social language strategies to meet the needs of students with language delay and second language learners. Participants will also have an opportunity to design their own content-specific resource that they can immediately use with their students.

Learning Objectives: Explain how language learning is different for students with language delay vs. second language learners. Define social language and explain why it is important for students to learn how to converse using the appropriate vocabulary. Use social strategies to design a content-specific resource to meet the needs of students with language delay or second language learners.

Special technology instructions: Participants will need access to an internet device and a non-school, personal Google account. SimpleK12’s Google Classroom will be utilized for the interactive and hands-on components of this session.

Assessment:
Participants will complete an exit ticket to demonstrate their understanding of the session objectives and reflect on their learning.
